I generally say 7-21 days is the norm but no NOT worry if you are past that time frame. I can get some pretty good newborn shots on babies up 10 weeks old. Just realize it may take more time to get baby to sleep and result in less shots. This timeframe is from their due date not their birthdate. Babies born early can definitely wait for things like oxygen to come off, weight to be gained. We all want those squishy baby cheeks!

You should be thinking about booking your newborn session well into your first trimester. I take a limited amount of newborns per month. Booking this early ensures you will get on my calendar.

Literally, the baby and milk are all I need! I have a full studio stocked with all the backdrops, props, wraps, headbands, bonnets, and so much more. You name it, I probably have it. You will be provided with a prep guide prior to your session to help make for a great session.

If your session includes family portraits or sibling portraits, I usually like to do those first. It is also best if you arrange for Dad or a family member to take the sibling home or to the park afterward. This helps me (and mom) focus on what the baby needs for the rest of the session.

Guess what? My maternity client closet is perfect for mom’s to wear during the portrait session. I also have matching wraps for baby for many of my dresses.

My newborn mini sessions are no more than 90 minutes, and my full sessions are about 3 hours.

Awake newborn shots are some of my favorites! So don’t worry if they are wide awake. I will make sure we capture beautiful photos of your little one.
