There are a lot of things to help you style your family. Pinterest probably being the easiest. I would say no matching tops and bottoms (ex., Everyone wears jeans and a black top). You want to pick a few main colors and dress everyone to their style and comfort. My favorite way is to dress mom first and work the others around that outfit. I love COLOR. It can really save a session on an overcast day. Jewel tones are my favorite to shoot. IMPORTANT: if you are planning to wear uncomfortable shoes, please bring tennis shoes to walk in, and then you can change into your pretty shoes. If you know me, I like a little hiking to get to the beautiful spots.

I have a ton of girl's outfits in my client closet. I also have a little girl who loves photoshoots and pretty dresses, so I have built up quite a collection, from boho dresses to frilly tutu dresses. Some of my favorite vendors are Bailey's Blossoms, Joyfolie, Sew Trendy, Sew Darn Cute, just to name a few!

I think we can all relate to this! If shooting family portraits, meaning looking at the camera, is the most important to you, I try to get those done first when children are most attentive. That way, we can use the rest of the session playing, exploring, and doing what the kids like to do. You are going to get the most out of your kids if it feels more like fun! So, I let the kids be kids and capture them in their element instead of forcing them to do what I want.

If you have young children, bring snacks! I swear the way to a kids heart is always food. A little treat after the session never hurts, too. Dum Dum lollipops are always my favorite.
